Health & Social Care providers in England need to be registered with The Care Quality Commission (CQC), the governing body that regulates, monitors and inspects all practice. CQC ensure all paperwork, policies and procedures are appropriate and in place, and that the Registered Manager is fit for purpose.
Our registration ID with CQC is: 1-4094343780.
CQC rate all providers on a scale and define care organisations as either 'Outstanding', 'Good', 'Requires Improvement', or 'Inadequate'.
That overall rating is based on the following five criteria;
- Safe
- Effective
- Caring
- Responsive
- Well Led
You can find out more about CQC via their website:

Helen passed her initial interview with CQC in 2017 when Bertie and Bells was established. We had our first official inspection a year later in October 2018 and were given an overall ‘Good’ rating.
The summary report and full report for that inspection generally read very well, and whilst an overall 'Good' rating is something to be proud of, we were naturally disappointed to have received a 'Requires Improvement' on the 'Effective' criteria. We are happy to explain CQC's concern in this regard, if you'd like more information.
We were naturally equally disappointed not to have received 'Outstanding' for any element. However, we are proud to work in such a well regulated sector which has a high-benchmark when it comes to standards, and fully respect the need for these. We constantly strive for improvements, and look forward to this being reflected in our next CQC rating.
